MORE HAY
Increases dry matter (up to 580#) per acre due to higher leaf retention.
Can increase total yield by as much as 1 ton/acre/year.

QUICKER HAY
Shorter field drying time = Lowered weather exposure and wider window to bale.
Shorter drying time = less leaf loss.
Shorter drying time = earlier baling time.

THE PROOF
Half the cows in a dairy herd were fed untreated alfalfa hay baled at 17.2% moisture, fed at 10.1% moisture. The other half were fed treated alfalfa hay baled at 31.2% moisture, fed at 14.1% moisture. The rest of the ration was the same.

The cows fed treated hay produced:
More milk: 1.2 pounds per cow per day.
Better milk: 0.5 pounds more 4% FCM per cow per day.
With less: 1.1 pounds less dry matter intake per cow per day.
